| After a leisurly breakfast and driver's meeting, we are now ready to go to our last overnight
castle. But first, we will make a stop in Beaune for lunch and for a visit of
Les Hospices de Beaune. The buildings, well known for their trademarked colorful roofs, also contain impressive wine cellars. One of the unique characteristics of the Hospices is its wine producing estate of over 150 acres, which have made it through its entire hsitory. |

Château de Gilly stands in grandeur in the heart of Burgundy's Grands Cru between Dijon and Beaune. Indeed, its history and its presence are the very essence of the region. Its austere 14th century Cistercian origins contrast with the ornamental style of the 17th century to provide a palatial moated residence standing in formal "à la Française" gardens. The estate includes several historic buildings displaying centuries of superb craftsmanship. One such is the stone-vaulted cellar, now the restaurant, which is linked by tunnel to the main building. The cuisine and the wines are a gastronomic experience never to be forgotten - a worthy tribute to Burgundian culture. |
